Semiotics Two

The McDonald’s “M” is an image that a lot of people in the world recognize.  In this case, sturdy metal has been formed into the letter M and painted a specific shade of yellow.  The M itself looks like two arches put together and with the yellow color it also looks very similar to two french fries.

As simple as the shape is, the vast majority of people in the world will probably recognize it as the symbol for McDonalds.  For some people that may mean they think about greasy, fattening food.  For others it may signify great, fast food; the American way.  I think that this is a really good example of how powerful a good trademark or brand can be for a company.  McDonalds has taken a lot of time to make people think of their company when they see the letter M in a certain font and in a certain color.  It’s interesting how the letter “M” in a certain shape and in a certain color means so many different things to so many different people.
