Gestalt Principles
Several triangles arranged in closely to each other uses the Gestalt techniques of similarity and proximity to create a scene. The brain recognizes objects as a whole before it registers the individual parts and because these shapes are similar and so close together, the mind perceives the letter "k" before it recognizes that those are merely separate shapes arranged into another shape our brain has be conditioned to recognize as a simple letter.
The cover of this makeup book features a woman's face. How do we know that for sure though when several of the defining lines of her face are bleached out? Our brains automatically try to make sense of everything we see. This picture could just be individual facial features arrayed in close proximity, but our brain uses the Closure principle to fill in the blanks with the lines we know should be there in order to construct a complete picture to satisfy our mind.
