 TURKEY                        Jennifer Frost                                    Perception

The minority of people and history from Turkey are beautiful and rich in symbolism of a belief in a higher being referred to as Tengri.  The red and white in the flag refer to directions, these two representing the southwest, meaning the settlers of Turkey are from a branch that came from that direction. The moon and star further tell of these early settlers acknowledgement of Tengri in the heavens and that Tengri dwells in a southwestern part of the sky.  This ideology comes from very early in the Turkish history and carried through their history. The middle picture is one of many mosques built in the country during the Ottoman Empire reign. The combination of rulers was able to depict beliefs and combine with mathematical equations to create stunning masterpieces throughout the city.  This ideology is still reverenced by the people today. The in the Bosphorus bridge, far right, is  a structure that early rulers of Turkey wanted to have built back around the year 1000 to build the empire but was not built until 1957.  The people wanted to help early visions be accomplished. Their single story is one of sacredness and respect, by worshipping through another channel of continuing to build structures that bring honor to and build the empire.
