Composition Photography

Point of View:

Chicken and Waffles with Deviled Eggs at Station 22. The photo's perspective is if someone were looking down at the other person cutting the food. Taking the photo from above shows the symmetry of the food as a whole and not necessarily all of the details. It highlights the strong contrast between the tables/plates and the foods' vibrant colors. The meal looks prepared and ready. I enhanced the coloring and created a new layer to create a faded effect.

Balance:

The Christus Statue at Temple Square. On our visit, my sister went closer to look at the statue. I immediately saw the balance and snapped a candid photo. The way Christ is looking down at her in the top left corner naturally guides your eyes to her. The balance exemplifies the feeling of power and piety that's associated with Jesus Christ. I lowered the saturation because I felt a black and white image would really highlight the Savior and create a nice silhouette effect.

Subject/Background:

Sitting outside of Ivie's Juice Bar. The subject is my friend holding her smoothie. This is another candid shot. She is the closest object to the camera, and her red hair makes her stand out against the neutral background. The background of downtown Provo adds a nice effect, but it not at all the focus. I created another layer to create a stronger fade and cropped the photo for a Polaroid-like feel.

  1. Love the Christ one. I really like how he stands out so much and how the girl seems so dark. When we are in darkness, we look to him.
