D Morris Creativity

Being creative on the fly and being given such huge options to work with is more difficult than I thought. Like we talked about in class, creativity needs constraints. Luckily I was able to pull through (somehow) with something semi-enjoyable.
The first thing I did was invited a date over, because creativity is so much easier when there is the added tension of having an attractive person that you have to impress standing over your shoulder...and so I couldn't act like an idiot. (instant constraint)
We each brought a book that we liked and marked a paragraph in the beginning, middle and end that we thought gave a slight overview of the story line and then traded books. The goal was to read the three paragraphs and write a page about what the synopsis of the story was. Using only these three paragraphs I wanted to see if either of us could guess the storyline using past experience/intelligent guesswork.
In the end, our stories were hilarious, but they actually followed the books incredibly well even though neither of us had read the books we were writing about. It was really fun and showed me how a lot of creativity is often borrowed from other sources until we create our own. And if a girl can sit through this kind of shenanigan with me, she's a very kind soul.

We also sat down to create our own work of art using our $6.00 thrift store painting of a winter scene. Since I'm not an artist and can hardly draw a straight line I needed the help, once again, of my date. We really created a masterpiece, which only took as about 4 hours and 3 cups of tea each. We drafted, laughed, sketched and finally painted our lovely work of art! There is still a lot to be added, but it's off to a great start.
