The George Randal

- Chad Burton

Just trying to "be creative" is hard. If you tell yourself you have to be creative within certain parameters, it becomes much easier.

I decided to try to be creative in two parameters that are already a big part of my life. First, I am a big BYU football fan and an enthusiastic member of the ROC (the new student section). My first parameter was that I had to do something creative at the BYU football game against Texas last Saturday.

Second, my favorite beverage is a tasty drink called the George Randal (Mountain Dew Code Red with a lime and sometimes vanilla). The George Randal club has become very active in the ROC at BYU sporting events... to the point that it has become the official drink of the ROC... evidenced by this tweet:

My friends and I brought the Randal to the ROC last basketball season, and it has had several great moments. The biggest moment for the Randal in the ROC so far was when NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton took a sip and changed the face of Randalling forever... giving it its day on the national stage.

My goal this week was to top that amazing experience in a creative way.

My first attempt was to get ESPN College Football Analyst Joe Tessitore to visit the ROC and take a sip of his own. Getting the actual commentator of the game to be a part of it and put us on ESPN would take the cake. So I tweeted him an invitation.

Alas, he never showed. So I spent Saturday morning instead by coming up with the most creative ways possible to spread the George Randal to the ROC.

We handed out over 50 drinks. For the first time in Randal history, we found an official sponsor to provide the drinks to the ROC for every home basketball and football game going forward (a delight to my pocketbook's ears... and will also double our output per game).

Finally, if that wasn't creative enough (to fulfill the assignment), we ordered Randal shirts for the upcoming game against the University of Utah.

All in all, it was a creative and fun adventure for a Saturday BYU game. If it helps, the team walloped Texas :). GO COUGARS. Randal like it hawt!
