This is a really cool logo for Springville High School, where my brother is studying. It uses the Gestalt principle of closure, we can clearly see the devil's face even though it's been cut in half (it also makes the letter "S").
For my design I chose to combine the principle of closure with the principle I find most interesting, continuation. If a painting or design can guide your eyesight in a certain way, you can make the viewer see exactly what you want them to.
I have chronic back pain, so I thought a good way to demonstrate it would be with a large knife. I separated the knife into smaller segments, which we still see as a knife. This utilizes the principle of closure and could represent separate vertebrae. The eye, mine at least, follows the knife from the handle to the base of the blade to the tip, mostly along the edge of the blade. I feel discomfort following the edge of the blade down the spine, and know that the principle of continuation is at work.
