Found this little gem on the second floor of the Harold B. Lee library hanging out on the wall. I am pretty fascinated by the randomness of this work of art. There is strong use of the Gestalt principle of continuation used in this piece. In each of those blocks overlapping the rabbit, we can see images of houses being cut off, however, in our minds we can picture what the rest of the house looks like.
I decided to make a festive design. We use a plethora of images around Halloween time to create an ambience of spookiness. This image of a pumpkin and ghost utilize two of Gestalt's principles. First, the pumpkin over laps the ghost, which takes out part of the outline of the image. That is the principle of continuation. Inside the pumpkin I created thick white lines that detach the image, using the principle of closure, because our brains still know that the image as a whole is a pumpkin.
