Gestalt Principles
I was walking to school one day and notice these power lines being swallowed up by the trees they were placed over. I didn't think much of it at first, but then it hit me BAM! That's continuation. My eyes were drawn to the straight, continuous power lines and led straight into the colorful tree. Although it's hard to see in the picture, the power lines are all completely overtaken by this tree. It looks like the lines go into the tree and disappear completely.
Rather than creating a design from scratch, I tried to find Gestalt principles within an existing picture and use design tools to illustrate those principles. This image was taken during one of my hockey games earlier this year.
The yellow triangle shows the principle of similarity. My teammates and I, who share similar characteristics in our jerseys, are "grouped" together with me; the mind connects that we are together.
The second principle I have highlighted in this picture is continuation. Your eyes naturally start at the left of the image, and follow the lines and shapes created by my body and the hockey stick. The 'final destination' of your eyes in the image is on the hockey puck. The eyes will naturally find it by the outstretched hockey stick, creating a harmonious end to the eye's split-second journey.
