Gestalt Theory

In looking for something to take a picture of to display one, or more, of the Gestalt principles the idea came to me to look at my clothes and how even though they are something that I see and wear everyday they too can display those principles. In taking this snapshot of my closet I noticed the principles of similarity and proximity were the most prominent. Similarity because the objects, in this case the clothing, has similar features they are perceived in groups by the different colors. Proximity is displayed because certain types and colors of clothing are placed close together and are also perceived as a group. 

For creating a design to show at least two of Gestalt's principles I decided to use Word and a simple image tool to create this pattern. I love the sun and the and I think it makes a really interesting pattern when placed together in different sizes. It displays continuation because the eye jumps from one sun to the next, going up and down each row and column. The image also shows proximity because they are all placed relatively close together so even though they are not all the same they are perceived as a group. Overall the image has a really engaging effect on the eyes, it draws you in and creates groups depending on the size and the placement of the sun symbols.
