As I was pondering in the shower one morning, I came across this "U" logo on the back of my body wash. This is the logo for the brand Unilever. Although it's a common site that I see every morning, it wasn't until we were given this assignment that I noticed this "U" was made of of many smaller images combined to make one. This logo is showing Gestalt's principle of proximity because we perceive all of these independent objects as one big "U", because they're close together.
The image I designed utilizes Gestalt's principles of proximity and closure. This image is literally just one big circle with many triangles around it, but because of their proximity, we perceive them to be one figure. Also, these shapes are not touching, yet our eye will make them out to be a complete image. Many people will look at these independent shapes and perceive them to be a sun because of this principle of closure.
