Gestalt

In looking for an image that demonstrated a Gestalt principle, I found a very obvious but simple one right in my bedroom. On my storage cart, there are lines going diagonally down the side, and with each drawer, there is a line going horizontal. These lines cross over each other, and since they are similar in form and material, the Gestalt principle of similarity can be applied, as well as continuation and proximity. The similar bars can be perceived as being one entity, and continuation comes from the diagonal lines that cut across the horizontal lines.

I did my Gestalt design in Photoshop, and formed it from one of my Gestalt thumbnails done in class last week. Clearly, it says "key," but the shape of a key is actually worked into the word. Closure is an applicable principle here, as one can fill in the missing spaces, such as with the "Y", and can find the key despite the center of the "E" cutting through. Proximity also applies too, though there are three separate pieces, all the components are similar enough in size, location, and color that they can be perceived as being one entity.
