Time Observation

As I finished classes today around 6:30pm, I rushed home so that I could find the best possible place to be able to find tons of things to account for time.  As I got home, I realized that I need to cook some delicious chicken and rice burrito's...Now that I have finished the burrito's it is currently 8pm and is dark outside.  So, I am completing this assignment in our extremely hot kitchen with both the window and door open.  Since it is dark outside, a lot of my observations are auditory.

1.        Crickets occurring fairly consistently every second
2.       Some other insect making a noise consistently every 5 seconds
3.       Oven on, seems to make some faint clicking noise about every 2 minutes
4.       Fridge motor has a vibration that has two different pitches.  Each pitch lasts about ½ second...Is the motor ever going to turn off?...This probably explains why my power bill is so high!
5.       We just recently turned off the oven from dinner, it seems like the temperature in the room is dropping slightly over time.  If I stayed in the room long enough, and had a better way of testing the temperature difference, it could be very possible to come up with some form of time.
6.       Drip at the kitchen sink is about 10 seconds from each other…I didn't realize there was a leak, I should probably get this fixed ASAP.

Overall, I really enjoyed doing this activity.  It is amazing to find so many different methods of identifying time in just one location.  I didn't realize that spending time just focusing on what is around can give so much information not only with time, but also with things that I need to fix... Dripping sink here I come!!

  2. Who knew there were so many sounds going on. It's amazing what we don't notice until we force ourselves.
