Photography Assignment

I wanted to focus my photography assignment on strength developed by adversity, specifically in reference to the United States of America. It dawned on me that during and following all of the major conflicts that our nation has endured were the times of greatest prosperity. During and following the American Revolution is one example, while a more easily seen example is of World War II.

The United States was deep in an economic depression prior to WWII, and due to the changes made in manufacturing and production during this time the nation experienced its highest economic point to date. This was a pattern that I had noticed while doing a different project a year ago, and I wanted to find a visual representation of it. These photos show that the flag is at is most brilliant and beautiful state during high winds, which is a parallel for the state of our nation. Economically as well as spiritually, the nation has proven to be at its best during times of adversity, or at times of high winds.
