Tatiana Composition 1: POV, Balance, Subject/Background

Point of View

Sometimes I wonder about babies' perspectives from down on the ground. As I was thinking about this assignment, I saw my nephew playing on the ground and knew I had to capture the moment, especially because the light from the back door was shining right on his face (as the guy in the video would say, it was perfect light). So I got on my stomach and took some photos of him from the perspective of being on the ground right next to him. I think it turned out great, especially because I got to see just how entertained he was with the rug firsthand.

Balance

I thought this applied to balance because my nephew Walter's head, the focus of the photo, is in the upper left corner. There's a lot of weight there because that's the focal point of the photo. It's the "busiest" and it's where you might look first. But the blue boppy chair adds a lot of weight to the lower right corner of the frame. Still, without the hand reaching out, the weight would be more centered on his face because his body technically isn't even facing toward the camera. But Walter's hand sticking out toward the camera, down in the bottom right corner, adds to the weight of the boppy chair and creates more movement and overall balance.

Subject/Background

My friend and I went on a drive and we couldn't stop fawning over the sunset. She's a photographer, so one of the photos I took was of her taking a picture of the sunset. I chose this as my subject/background illustration because she is my subject, but there's also the added beauty of the sunset in the background. The focus is on my friend, but the background just amplifies the subject and the story that she tells.
