I just started playing around with different colors for this poster design. I started with the purple-ish gray hue and since orange and purple are complementary colors, I decided to incorporate a muted orange tint in the design to match the muted background color. I also incorporated some harmonious colors. The yellow color is next to orange on the color wheel. Also, the text that appears dark and black is actually not black. It's just a shade of purple that I darkened so it wouldn't look too harsh against the background.
