Semiotic Analysis of Diamond Rings

There is a lot of meaning attached to diamonds for many people. On its own, a diamond is just a rock. Granite is a rock too--so why don't we wear granite on our ring fingers? A diamond rock anchored to a gold or silver ring has come to be referred to as an engagement ring. The concept/connotation that an engagement ring represents is romantic love and commitment and value.

Something I always notice about engagement rings is that they are extremely shiny. The sparkle is part of what a lot of people like about rings. This is because it catches your eye and draws your attention. Something that is attention-getting symbolizes importance and a higher socio-economic status. If I have something beautiful and expensive then I am also valuable myself.

  1. Wearing a wedding ring also proves to be the symbol of attachment. It may signify the fact that the woman is married, but it is also considered as a symbol to show her affection towards her love. It is been said that the vein of the fourth finger of the left hand is directly connected to the wearer's heart.
