New Beginnings (Semiotics #2)

An older woman holding a plant in gardening soil. That is what we see when we look at this image. Why do we see it this way? What is the meaning behind the image? What is the artist trying to portray? We determine that it is a woman because the individuals nails are painted. We infer that this individual is older due to the wrinkles in her skin. The wrinkles come with age. People familiar with gardening would catch on that the soil in her hand is not just dirt, but is in fact gardening soil.

We make inferences about this picture based upon life experience and the things that we have seen. What does this image as a whole signify? This image portrays a new beginning. The plant that she is holding is small. It is just starting out. She handles this delicate plant with care and is nurturing it with quality soil. We can ascertain from this image that no matter where we are in life, we can look for opportunities to start anew. We have the opportunity to grow through nurturing experiences regardless of where we are in life right now.
