Semiotics 2: Lock

What we physically have here is some small pieces of metal with a complex inner arrangement, and a comparatively simpler visible front. Many locks don't look that different, and aren't made of different materials, but they convey different levels of importance based on the door they are in, or even the handle they unlock. Locks can make our environment feel more or less safe depending on which side we are on. Although, even on the outside you can feel more or less safe depending on the environment you find yourself in. Do you ever feel weird in a house that doesn't have any locks on the doors? Or do you feel weird if there are locks on every door? Have you ever encountered locks in weird and unexpected places? The weirdest place I think I've ever seen locks is in the temple locker rooms, think about that one.
