I decided to use similarity and continuation. Each of the letters is similar in its color and shape, except for one in each row. The unique letters lead your eye down the diagonal to finish the name "Emily." Even though the name is spelled over and over with the similar letters vertically, the continuation of the unique letters attracts your eye and guides it down to notice primarily the name spelled with the unique letters diagonally.
