Symmetry with Gnomey

This first photo shows the principle of bilateral symmetry. Both sides of the photo are generally the same, equally balanced. The top of the photo adds some element of asymmetrical balance, but not enough to warrant asymmetrical as the main element.

This picture actually turned out to be a lot cooler than what it really is. I'm tempted not to say what it is, but maybe it's obvious. This is a chandelier that we picked up at the DI and hung in our dining room. I played around with the lights, having them off and on, to get the coolest picture, and this won. The principle here is radial symmetry. Everything revolves around the center point.

This is my favorite picture, maybe ever. The element here is asymmetrical balance. I played around with the depth of field with both elements, and this is the result. "Gnome-y" is in the foreground, with a tree farther back balancing him out. The shape of the tree is very similar to his hat, making it almost symmetrical, but the actual elements are very different sizes.
