Gestalt Principles

I chose to whip up a quick design that exemplifies the aspects of closure and similarity. This graphic looks like an 8 ball but it is really the number 8 surrounded by a bunch of black cones. Because of the way they are aligned, the cones create an illusion of a white circle. This is an example of closure because our minds conjure a shape that is not there. Also, the colors of the 8 ball are reversed. On an 8 ball the number 8 is printed black on top of a white circle. Really, this image is just a white 8 in a black circle surrounded by cones but the correct combination of colors and shapes are signifier of a billiard ball.

This image is from online but only because I did not have my work binder with me. I work for Xfinity which is a comcast company and this is one of comcast's logos. This is an example of both similarity and proximity. It is proximity because none of the shapes touch each other but the illusion of a peacock makes it look as if the colored shapes are simply attached to the back of the peacocks body. Similarity is shown because even though the purple has a chunk taken out of it, our minds believe that behind the white peacock all of the shapes are full.
