Accidental Art with Shadows

When I finally found the time to start the creativity assignment the sun had already set and I started to worry that I would have to go find "art" in between classes the next day. But then I realized that nighttime offers a whole other spectrum of art and I decided that a walk at night could be the answer to creativity. On my stroll I realized the beauty of shadows and how they reflect reality in a disfigured manner. I was able to capture shots of a street sign that looks like a shadowy pinwheel, a 50 foot black tree that juts out of a stump, a detailed reflection of a bike tire, and a dark hand rail that dissolves into the abyss. I was shocked by how much the contrast of light and dark could create at night.

I really appreciate this piece. The fact that you were able to "see" this demonstrates how great this is-thanks for sharing

  5. I love these photos! I would never have thought to take pictures at night, but you captured so much beauty in just the shadows of everyday objects. The second picture is definitely my favorite!

  6. Very beautiful photographs. It's interesting how something as simple as a shadow can seem to speak to us with it's temporary beauty and uniqueness. Something about these shadows being in the backdrop of night make them somewhat mystical and eerie. I imagine your impression would have been different had you found these shadows during the day.

  9. Good eye. I wouldn't have noticed these myself. Interesting how if you just take a moment to look, even shadows become artistic.

  10. I found myself doing this assignment at night as well, so I can relate with you on seeing a different kind of art at night. I love the second image- the contrast between the two different object's shadows makes you think at things a new way.

  12. I LOVE this... I found this interesting myself during my walk but didn't think it was creative enough... you were able to see what I didn't allow myself.

  15. I also enjoy this. I like how you were able to capture the shadows in that it made it so it was aesthetically pleasing. The design is not too cluttered but made naturally.

  17. Shadows are some of my favorite art! They are difficult to photograph correctly and I think you did great. I love that you can see the shadows and object from a new perspective but you can also see something completely new.

  20. Weston! I didnt know you were in this class. You definitely found the best example of accidental work in my opinion. All the other examples aren't even pleasant to look at. Great job.

  21. Shadows are definitely unexpected art. After looking at the pictures I noticed myself looking at shadows in a different way, as I finally see the beauty in something that is often overlooked.

  22. Very cool. I have always been fascinated with shadows and how they create the most interesting images. You've captured some good ones here and I'm almost mad I didn't think of doing the same things so I could get some cool artistic pictures like these.
