Parents on Snapchat (Single Story)

Ughhh my Mums on Snapchat

A lot of times parents with social media get a bad rap. People think they are either obsessed parents looking to nail their kids or are completely dim. For some reason we have all decided that parents couldn’t possibly live in the social media world that we domain in any sort of serious way.  I also feel like a lot of parents feel this way without being able to try it. Although many say Facebook died when your mum got on and ruined everything commenting, “who is that boy” on all of your pictures. The thing is there is room for parents in the social media world. You don’t think your parents are clueless in real life (I hope) so why cant they be a knowledgeable voice on twitter or a send you pictures on snap chat of your family you love and miss while your at college without it being a big joke.

The very idea of adults being to old for social media or snap chat is in fact limiting us and counting down our years of relevancy. Although these sorts of apps are certainly branded toward a younger generation if we want to stick around in the world of snap chat and pokes why not teach everyone how to use it and respect or at least hear out everyone’s voice on these platforms. I also feel like the more people on one of these platforms makes it better with more points of view and maybe new ideas on how to use them.

I think if the social media we use currently will last or stick around it definitely needs to widen their views of who should be on the app or how we can use it. I have known many adults or parents to have social media and use it very well and I want to hear from them and even like, favorite and laugh at what they have to say or post. In the end I fully believe that snap chat along with other social media should be something you can use if you want to and you shouldn’t feel like “you’re to old” or like it’s a joke. I for one want to hear what they have to say or if you rather post!

  1. Definitely a funny new social phenomenon -but not sure I would consider this demographic a "minority" or that is constantly oppressed in the media. All of your artifacts are from one medium-I think you would have a stronger case towards this single story if there were more mediums supporting your claim
